Twelve schools from around the Phoenix area of ward 141, came together at the Eastbury Secondary School Hall for the Grade 8 Maths Quiz on the 1 September 2011.
Minority Front Councillors – Bradley Singh, Lyndal Singh, Solly Singh, Patrick Pillay as well as Guest Speakers Mrs Shameen Rajbansi and the Deputy Chief Superintendent of Education in Phoenix, Mrs Angela Naicker, was in attendance to show their support and commemorate the subject of mathematics as being an important part of lifes journey after schooling careers become a thing of the past.
"Mathematics plays and important role in every career choice that a person becomes a part of. In our society and in our era of life, technology has become a dominant part of human force and this is due to mathematics taking a vital role into producing such technology. If we have so many kinds of new technology that is being developed now imagine how much more and how many incredible sights we can be achieving in the near and distant future and all thanks to mathematic," Cllr Lyndal Singh proclaimed.
