Minority Front Councillor Lyndal Singh attended the two day Women Economic Empowerment Conference which was held by the Department of Economic development and tourism, at the International Convention Centre on the 11 and 12 August 2011.

There were approximately 650 people in attendance .

The idea of the conference was to find a way for women to become economically active in our societies and for women to have an equal part as men to play in our country.

The discussion revolved around the role of women in the economy and how they have evolved since 1994 and the current challenges faces by women.

At the end of the conference a way forward for women to sustain themselves as a major part of the economy was also examined.

Councillor Singh said after the conference, "It is an honor to all women to have such a conference and highlighting the important factors pertaining to women in our economy. Women have come a long way in our societies and are sometimes still not taken seriously. Now we have an advantage that those women in the past years struggled to overcome and also fought for woman to be equal today and woman are moving forward."

Mf Member of Parliament Mrs Rajbansi who sits on Economic Development Portfolio Committee said, " The conference was and initiative of private and government which attracted hundreds of woman with Entrepreneurial flair ranging from smme and marco of business from the country.

She further stated that if was evident from the participation, that woman need knowledge of under representation in business areas which was male dominated such as the maritime and Aviation sectors.
